One thing about finding music you truly enjoy is that sometimes you may have to break it up into a set and with these “Gems” this is exactly what I have to do for these netcasts. The cassette LPs I converted ended up having more tracks I wanted to share than I expected and for me that’s not a bad thing because of my love for music. The four cassettes I will showcase on this netcast will be Danny Wilson, T-Square, Sam Cardon, and compilation LP with GRP artists back in the late 80s.

Danny Wilson to me was one of those British groups that never really found their ground here in the states. They are mainly known for they tune, “Mary’s Prayer” which was featured in the movie, “Something About Mary” but their LP, “Meet Danny Wilson” for me was fulfilling from the first track to the very last track. What really caught my ear was how they could use a Tuba and it stills sounds nice. I really love the arrangements on most of tracks and Gary Clark voice as one young lady said years ago “kinda reminded her of Donald Fagen”. I don’t know why but Danny Wilson gives me that sound that reminds me of the movies from the 1950s.

T-Square is a Japanese jazz group that has a touch of the Rippingtons in some of their tracks (and that is because Russ Freeman produced a couple of their tracks). This LP was a chill out sound for me in my single days. One of my favorite upbeat tracks I truly love is “Control”. For me it’s such a uplifting track that puts me in a good mood no matter how I am feeling that day.

Sam Cardon is a artists that takes me back in the 90s when I was chilling at a barber shop where sometimes I wish they would take their time getting to me because I was enjoying the music too much. One track I used to like off of the Serious Leisure LP but I am older and I have come to appreciate more tracks.

In the late 80s and the 90s GRP was the “it” label. From Special EFX, Eddie Daniels, Mark Egan, Dave Grusin(one of the founders of the label), Chick Corea and many other great musicians. Two labels I used to buy all the time, Windham Hill Records and GRP. This compilation LP, The Wave 102. was a true find. I have had this LP for about 10 years now and I remember where I bought this cassette (at Big Lot on the South Side, St. Louis City. I don’t know how strong GRP is now but I do know in the day I could listen to these artists 24/7.
